Advanced Search

This search allows you to combine any set of attributes you want to use to find exactly the rose you want.  Don't miss these categories found under the heading "Special Uses": Disease Resistant, Foliage, Good for Cutting, Good for Difficult Locations, Good for Drying, Ground Cover, Hedge, Hips, Pots, Shade Tolerant, and Thornless or Nearly Thornless.

‘Add’ is clicked each time an attribute is added to your search.

‘Apply’ is clicked  to begin  searching with the combination of attributes you have selected

‘Remove’ is used to delete attributes, as you work.

Holding down the ‘Control’ key  allows you to select more than one attribute within a category while clicking on each one.

Dragging to highlight, If attributes are right next to each other, will also work and is necessary for Zone searches. (See below.)

NOTE:  The second drop down window that appears when a category is selected in the first drop down window is where the search is refined.

To Begin:

1. Click on the black arrow on the drop down window and click on ‘add’ following each category you wish to combine in your search.

2. A second window with a black arrow will then appear.  Click on the arrow to select attributes within that category.  If you select Class, in the second window you will then select the class or classes you wish to search by, such as, Gallicas and Damasks.

3. VERY IMPORTANT FOR ZONE SEARCHES:

You may select more than one attribute within a category by holding down the ‘Control’ key while clicking on each one.  If attributes are right next to each other, dragging to highlight will also work. This is especially important to know when doing Zone searches.  The coldest Zone is Zone 3 where only Zone 3 roses may be grown.  But Zone 4 can grow all the Zone 4 roses and all the Zone 3 roses.  Zone 6 can grow all the Zone 3, 4, 5, and 6 roses.  If these other Zones are not selected, the search will turn up only the roses that have been entered as hardy to Zone 6.  Thus, the search results will be much more limited than if the inclusive highlighting technique is used.

4. EXAMPLE: When doing a search for all the red roses to grow in Zone 5 be sure to hold down the ‘Control’ key while clicking on ‘dark red’, ‘medium red’, and ‘red blend’. Then click on the ‘Add’ key.  Next select Zone 5 and drag through to Zone 3 because all the colder Zone 4 and 3 roses can be grown in Zone 5.  Then click the ‘Apply’ button.  All the red roses that can be grown in Zone 5 will appear.

All Roses Search

This rose search allows you to search by a specific rose name, class, zone and color.  You can use these search categories separately or combine them to refine your search.  Here are some helpful hints for each search category.

Rose Name:  Just type in the correctly spelled name for the rose you are interesting in learning more about.

Class:  If you are interested in only one class of roses, click on the arrow and a drop down list will appear.  This will allow you to choose one specific class to narrow your search down to.  If you would like to search all the classes, just leave the phrase Any in the box.

Zone:  You may select more than one zone by holding down the ‘Control’ key while clicking on each one.  If zones are right next to each other, dragging to highlight will also work. If you would like all the zones to be included in your search, simply leave the box alone.  This would apply especially to those living in warmer zones, where most roses can be grown.

Color:  You may select more than one color by holding down the ‘Control’ key while clicking on each one.  If colors are right next to each other, dragging to highlight will also work.  If you would like all the colors to be included in your search, simply leave the box alone.

When you have all your search requirements ready, click on the Apply icon.  Your results will load under the search boxes.  To change your search, simply adjust your categories and click on the Apply icon again.
