Spotlighting Our Sales on Some Beautiful Big Plants

Our gallons and 5 gallons are big plants! They are taking up space we need. We want to sell them out. Big own root plants like these may not be available ever again from us at such low prices. Help us clear the space. What you get is a big strong plant that you can plant now in Zones 7, 8, 9, and 10. We will refund the sale discount on the gallons and 5 gallons as we process your order.

Customers feeling the fall chill already, in Z6, 5, 4, 3, may order requesting a delayed shipping date in the spring.

Some of Our Most Beautiful New and Restocked Varieties

Suntan Beauty
Suntan Beauty is one of the many exquisite miniatures from The Uncommon Rose Collection. Paul Barden has this to say about this rose: Ernest D. Williams bred many Miniature roses in his years, but I suspect he will be most remembered for the unusually colored roses he created. 'Suntan Beauty' has to be my favorite of all the Williams roses I grow. 'Space Walk' is another of the "coffee" colored Williams roses that I like. 'Suntan Beauty' is a terrific little rose with loads of tan and russet colored blooms of wonderful shape. Why this miniature is not more well known is beyond me. Photo by Paul Barden.

Vol de Nuit (Night Flight)
Vol de Nuit has large, very fragrant, voluptuous blooms. This is the lavender of a stormy early evening sky; a lavender with an edge to it; definitely not fluffy or soft. I find it haunting, even eerie, unforgettable.

Hadley, CL. Like so many outstanding climbers, Cl. Hadley was introduced early in the last century. The rose is notable for its large, very fragrant dark red blooms. This beautiful Hybrid Tea Climber, has excellent rebloom for its class, and does best with shade in the warmest part of the day in hot summer areas. The blooms show best overhead where they fill the air with fragrance and droop down at the viewer. This is a rose for romance and romantics!

Mrs. Sam McGredy HT
This is a very vigorous, very fragrant, supremely beautiful, Climbing Hybrid Tea in all the shades of apricot and cantaloupe, deepening at times to almost burnt orange. There is nothing cautionary about this rose, except to say that one needs to immediately deadhead after the first superb spring flush to obtain a bit more profuse later blooms which come sporadically scattered about the large plant. This is definitely on my top ten list and planted on the deck near the dining room and the kitchen window.

Just Joey
Just Joey is one of the most beautiful of all apricot roses. This is a rose for those who love apricot in all its permutations, as I do. Our photo captures the glorious qualities of this rose that are matched by its lovely fragrance.

Secret Garden Musk Climber
Until our next newsletter, we are offering this rose, that is taking the rose world by storm, at only $9.50 to everyone who orders two, or more, other bands.
Secret Garden Musk Climber is an impeccable rose: healthy, vigorous, clothed in large clusters of crystaline, immensely fragrant bloom continuously. It has caused quite a stir in rose preservation circles since its finding a few years ago. We have planted it by our deck where its perfume will waft on warm summer evenings. Jeri Jennings has this to say in an ARS article, "Joyce Demits, of Fort Bragg, found this rose, along with another, equally-unknown rose of Noisette-type, in an old garden near Sonora, California. She tells us that it will reach twenty feet or more, in maturity. It is, she says, not reliably cold-hardy below Zero, but in a mild climate, it blooms continuously, and appears to be completely disease free. Not surprisingly, Joyce notes that the rose is very Musk-like in its botanical characteristics (and, of course, in its scent). " We would like to receive followup comments from zone pushers who try the rose in colder climates. Photo and quote copyright Paul Barden 2008.

Like so many nurseries, during the recession, we have had to do more with less work force this season. Our business is at our home and our small staff, as in most “family” type operations, wears many hats, or perhaps, gloves would be more accurate. We have been busily propagating all season on the days we are not shipping, caring for the gardens, etc.

We maintain one of the largest inventories of rare roses in commerce today. Our inventories are mounted throughout the fall and winter as plants are deemed mature enough to ship. You may email or call in additions to an existing order right up to the Friday before shipping as new inventories are announced. This also applies to orders being held in delayed shipping for our northern customers.
