Lyda Rose
Lyda Rose is on my short list of favorite roses. It is thornless, performs superbly in shade, is very disease resistant, hardy, of graceful habit, nearly continuous rebloom, superb fragrance, and of sublimely simple beauty with exquisite shadings. The shadings pink into white of the exquisitely formed single blooms remind me of handpainted china.I am told this rose will climb to eight or ten feet when provided with support. However, needing almost no pruning, Lyda remains a graceful arching five foot shrub in our gardens clothed to the ground with bloom in very frequent flushes.
Lyda Rose is one of the varieties we recommend to most dependably light up shady areas. It is another gift to the rose world from the sanctuary of Kleine Lettunich who, we are told, has the habit of opeing rose hips and scattering them about within the brush piles for the birds which she places about her property overlooking the Pacific. Mateo's Silk Butterflies originates as well from that generous practice.
