Kazanlik
Kazanlik is one of three Damasks that we grow that are used to distill attar of rose fragrance. (The others are Ispahan and Gloire de Guillan.) In our Zone 8 gardens, Kazanlik towers over an eight foot deer fence by at least 4 feet and billows over into a neighbors field. Somehow it manages to send branches covered in airy pastel pink bloom cascading to the ground without pulling the fence over. It is one of the most graceful roses we grow and I look forward to its generous everfescence lasting for an extended period every spring. I am told this is an ideal rose for potpourri, the petals increasing in fragrance as they dry. Photo copyright Paul Barden 2009.
